riendships created during a child’s formative years are important because they shape the world around them. Their ability to interact with others can greatly improve their social outlook and self esteem. Learning the necessary social skills to make and maintain healthy friendships early on sets us on a path of connection rather than isolation.
A study published in the American Journal of Public Health, conducted by Kristin Schubert, program director at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, measured the social skills of kindergarteners into their adulthood over two decades. Schubert’s study “shows that helping children develop social and emotional skills is one of the most important things we can do to prepare them for a healthy future…. From an early age, these skills can determine whether a child goes to college or prison, and whether they end up employed or addicted.”
It’s a pretty hard-hitting thing to say but the research is there, those that have greater social skills will have better personal and career outcomes and are better equipped to solve-problems without aggression or social withdrawal
